Montana Aware Safety Campaign Community Assistance Program

COVID-19 UPDATE Check out the latest Glacier Country Tourism information on communication response and resources.

Glacier Country Tourism is working with the Montana Department of Commerce to implement Montana Aware, a campaign to promote travel safety awareness. We are assisting with the coordination of distributing safety messaging in our communities. The safety messaging includes a number of things including a toolkit of physical materials, news releases, social media posts, webpage copy, radio PSA templates and an image gallery for businesses and organizations to use and/or make available to your community.

We have created a program where we will produce and ship all physical materials from the toolkit to organizations within our communities who will then distribute the materials to local businesses. Glacier Country Tourism will cover all of the associated costs. If you are a formal distribution partner, we will pay your organization a distribution assistance fee of $50/hour. We only request you provide us a weekly or monthly report that tracks hours spent doing this along with a brief update of what materials have been distributed and where. Organizations will also be asked to maintain a stock of these items available for people or businesses to pick up. Your assistance with this program will be needed on and off through June 2021 or until the grant funding has been depleted.

Program will be limited to no more than one officially identified organization per community although we encourage partnerships at the community level. Materials are free to all businesses and organizations within the Glacier Country region.

In addition to the toolkit items (posters and flyers), we have window clings, coasters, table tents, masks and buffs. We also have a selection of special order items you can request including light pole banners, sandwich boards and pop up banners. We are open to suggestions of other items you think may be useful in your community.

As of September, 29, 2020: The following are strategies that have been submitted for the community distribution of Montana Aware.

  • Use the MT Aware toolkit supplement messaging outside what Glacier Country Tourism is providing.
  • Keep and maintain an inventory of MT Aware collateral at office and other locations to be available to anyone who would like to use it.
  • Physically distribute the various materials by driving to businesses across the area. This includes the partner organization being able to hire people a fair wage to do this work.
  • Reach out to cooperating organizations about helping to distribute materials.
  • Email all chamber members and alert them to the availability of these items.
  • Visit and call members/businesses and distribute the items in person. Target convenience stores, grocery store, library, community center, accommodation properties, restaurants and bars, retail stores, city parks, government buildings, etc.
  • Include information about the program and the materials in newsletters and eblasts.
  • Share messaging via website, social media channels, public service announcements with local media.
  • Use pop up banners to use at local farmers markets and other community events.
  • Hang highway/sidewalk light pole banners along main corridors entrances to our community.
  • Provide a supply of flyers, masks and hand sanitizer to lodging properties so they can leave a "Have a safe stay" gift in each room.
  • Hang posters and put out sandwich boards at local community events to help communicate safety messaging. This is a great way to work cooperatively with your health department on your event safety plan.

Distribution program is limited to applicants within the Glacier Country Tourism Region geographic boundaries: Flathead, Glacier, Lake, Lincoln, Mineral, Missoula, Ravalli and Sanders counties.
